Charleston Chefs' Kitchen Tour Photos (1)

For those who are looking for a fun and exciting activity that brings out the true spirit of the city of Charleston, there is no better, or tastier for that matter, activity than the Charleston Chefs' Kitchen Tour. This small group walking tour is guide led and offers the ability to get up close and personal with the flavors and ambiance of what makes Charleston one of the top food cities in the country. From breakfast staples like donuts and biscuits to southern comfort classics, this tour offers the chance to not only taste the flavors that have made Charleston’s food scene famous, but meet the award-winning and inspiring chefs that bring those flavors to life.

The tour begins at the Charleston Visitors Center at the Ann Street Entrance to the building. The Charleston Visitors Center is located at 345 Meeting Street within easy walking distance of all major downtown Charleston hotels. From the visitors center, the group proceeds to their first tour stop, Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts. This Charleston icon offers up the best gourmet coffee and handmade donuts in town. You get to meet the proprietors and taste selections from the wide variety of their signature creations. From here you proceed up the way to two more famous eateries and get the chance to meet their chefs before tasting their most popular offerings. Next up is Callie's Hot Little Biscuit, where you not only get to taste the most awesome biscuits in town but hear the amazing story of how a simple eight-foot wide alley was transformed into a bustling kitchen space that has been feeding the craving Charlestonites have for fresh hot buttered biscuits for years. The last stop on the tour is Virginia’s on King Street. Here you will have the chance to taste southern classics that have been favorites for Charleston diners for decades. While enjoying the food at Virginia’s your guide will regale you with tales of Charleston’s intriguing and complex culinary history.

These are walking tours so dress comfortably and wear good walking shoes. Tours are held rain or shine since most of the tour takes place inside of the restaurants featured. If rain is in the forecast, be sure to bring a small umbrella as they are not provided. The tour lasts approximately three hours. Gratuities are encouraged, but not required and are not included. The minimum age to drink is 21. You should advise of any food allergies at the time of check out or at the start of the tour. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour. Cost is $60 a person, and includes your food and beverages at the five features stops.
Chefs' Kitchen Tours start at the Ann Street entrance to the Charleston Visitors Center, located at 375 Meeting Street. From that point head to Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts where the group enjoys coffee and doughnuts. Meet the proprietors of the charming little shop. Proceed to meet the chefs at two restaurants in the Upper King Street area and have an opportunity to ask questions to learn more about their respective restaurants. Continue to Callie's Hot Little Biscuit for a food sample and learn more about the story behind Callie's Biscuits.  Learn how an 8-foot wide alley was transformed into a bustling kitchen. Conclude at Virginia's on King where the group will enjoy a few of the South's classic southern dishes while your guide tells tales relating to Charleston's culinary history.

Your guide will tell stories about Charleston's history, culture and cuisine, and will point out landmarks along your tour route. As these are walking tours, please wear comfortable shoes.

Since most of the time on the tour is spent inside restaurants, the tours are held rain or shine. Plan on most restaurant stops lasting 20-30 minutes, during which time you'll be seated and have an opportunity to use the restroom. Tour cost includes all food samples.
