Shearwater Pottery is a pottery showroom located in Ocean Spring, Mississippi.
To visitors to the area, Shearwater Pottery can be found at 102 Shearwater drive and the structures have stood as a part of the rich history of Mississippi since 1928.
Founded by Peter Anderson, the company became a family tradition passed down through generations and continues to be a spot tourists flock to when visiting the Magnolia State. Aside from its rich history, Shearwater Pottery is a place to visit in order to see the different and unique pieces of pottery on sale. No two pieces of pottery on display there are alike as they are all handmade. There are beautiful figurines, decorative tiles, vases and other customizable products. These are each hand designed, hand painted, and made from two different types of clay. Each piece is then glazed through Shearwater's own specialized glazing process.
The pottery though is just one of the experiences of visiting Shearwater Pottery because stepping into the original structures that house the showrooms along with the work rooms is like stepping through time. Guests can see the preserved structures. After being destroyed in 2005 from Hurricane Katrina, steps were taken to make sure that the structures were restored to their original historic beauty so everyone can enjoy this piece of history.
So, for those loving to see good pieces of art or historic pottery done by hand, Shearwater Pottery is a place to go. After all, there is no way to buy these unique pieces except at the Shearwater Pottery showroom. Even if buying them isn't an alternative, just being able to see each piece and to know the story behind the historic structures is worth the trip.
