The Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport, a former school that was built in 1916, offers several interactive exhibits for children.
There are indoor and outdoor activities to enjoy. Many school groups utilize the center as there are several exhibits about science and math.
A super colossal indoor play structure features various areas to climb on and a safety net for the security of children. This structure acts as a way for children to reach some of the other exhibits. The first floor features creative areas, such as an art corner where children can paint or draw. Projects through the year help teach children how to draw, and there are crafts that relate to the holidays that are offered. The Bear Camp Bayou is a place for children under the age of four and there are puzzles and other toys for children, as well as blocks and a relaxing net for napping or looking at books. Children can dress up like train conductors in the Dolan Avenue Depot.
When children go outside, they can play in the small creek behind the building. They can gather rocks to examine in the science center on the second floor. There is also a small aquarium that contains fish and other sea animals for hands-on interactive learning about the world around us.
School groups and families are welcome to explore the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center. Special play days are held through the year. There is a space where children can have birthday parties. A variety of classes are offered, such as cooking and astronomy. The center offers an educational way for families to spend time together while in Gulfport.
