The mysterious and beautiful Enchanted Rock near Austin, Texas has attracted visitors from all over the continent for thousands of years.
It is so famous that it is the centerpiece of Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. The park is loaded with popular activities like rock climbing, picnicking, birdwatching, nature studying, geocaching, and just stargazing. At this time, there is no swimming or biking allowed. The park is open year round. However, in harsh weather some trails may be closed. The park has runs a store called Sweet Marleys at which visitors can purchase various items like popcorn, hot dogs, drinks, candy, and frozen treats.
The park staff operates with the help of volunteers. These volunteers do all manner of extra duties like tour guiding, giving out visitor information, and general park maintenance. This past February the park hosted its first annual Enchanted “Rock Star” Festival. The event is designed to be a celebration of Enchanted Rock’s gaining of national park status. The event holders hope that such events inspire visitors to seek to be more environmental friendly.
