Colorado Bend State Park is chock full of outdoor activities like camping, fishing, swimming, and bird and wildlife watching. There is an amazing and complex area specifically designed for mountain bike. This biking area is scattered with over 32 miles worth of paths. The Paddling is also extremely well designed here. The Colorado River makes an amazing natural course for such activities. For such activities, the park has a boat ramp beside which they rent out kayaks. One of the park’s most popular activities is hiking.
Hikers can opt to even take guided tours on one of the park’s many paths. And perhaps the most popular of these tours is the Gorham Falls tour. You can take the Gorham falls 1.5 guided tour or for the more adventurous vacationer there is a non-guided trail that is much more strenuous. Some of these tours involve hiking into and exploring caves. To protect the sensitive ecosystem of the caves, at various times of the year it may be closed off. In addition, even when they are open to the public, park staff are extremely cautious about who and how many go into the caves. If spelunking interests you, call before visiting the park to ask about the status of our caves.
For young outdoors vacationers, we offer Junior Ranger Explorer Packs at the gate. For adults, we also offer volunteer opportunities.
