Copper Canyon, Mexico

The Copper Canyon is the largest canyon in North America and home to the Tarahumara Indians, the least acculturated indigenous tribe in North America. A trip to Copper Canyon allows you to see this spectacular, largely unspoiled landscape from a "Train Ride in the Sky" along a railway that has 86 tunnels and over three dozen trestles.

DAY 1 – San Carlos
The first day takes you across the border at Nogales and on to a beautiful beachfront hotel in San Carlos, Mexico.

DAY 2 – Alamos
A morning yacht ride begins the day's activities, before a drive across Sonora to the evening's Bed and Brekafast accomodations in Alamos.

DAY 3 – El Fuerte
In the morning you can enjoy a guided tour walking the cobblestone streets of Alamos. In the evening enjoy entertainment and dinner at the Hotel Posada del Hidalgo in El Fuerte.

DAY 4 – The Copper Canyons
This morning we board a train for one of the most spectacular train rides in the world into the Copper Canyons. We are also introduced to our lodging for the next two nights at the lovely Mansion Tarahumara.

DAY 5 – Copper Canyons
This day gives you optional recreational opportunities in and around the canyons. Popular choices include horseback riding, hiking or taking a helicopter ride above the canyon.

DAY 6 – Casas Grandes
We begin the day in the mountains and then head into the Chihuahuan Desert  to Nuevo Casas Grandas, the location for the night's lodging and our farewell dinner.

DAY 7 – Tucson/Phoenix
We return to Arizona at the Douglas/Agua Prieta border crossing. But first we tajke time to sightsee at the Paquime archeological site where an earlier civilization constructed truncated pyramids and adobe highrise dwellings.
