Tucson, Arizona

With the Copper Canyon Adventure you will see the incredible scenery of the Copper Canyon and learn about the Tarahumara Indians who call the Canyon home. Also, you will enjoy visits to Chihuahua, El Fuerte, and the Oceanside town of San Carlos.

Day 1: Arrive Tucson, Arizona
Start your thrilling Copper Canyon Adventure in Tucson with a special welcome dinner and wonderful accommodations in the Sheraton Tucson Hotel.

Day 2: Tucson - San Carlos, Mexico
Cross into Mexico at the Nogales border en route to the beach town of San Carlos. Your travels will take you through the lovely wildlife-rich Sonora Desert. Your tour manager will also conduct a language discovery exercise that will help you learn about the origins of languages and teach you key phrases and words to facilitate your communication with local residents on your trip.

Day 3: San Carlos
Today is spent at your leisure in the pleasant beach community of San Carlos. Enjoy an optional nature cruise or shop the city streets. In the afternoon, you may choose a siesta cruise on the Sea of Cortez, if you desire.

Day 4: San Carlos - El Fuerte
Today’s destination is the colonial city of El Fuerte, founded by the Spanish back in 1564. On the way, you will visit a pearl farm and learn about the production of cultured pearls. The night’s lodging will be provided at the Posada del Hidalgo Hotel, a majestic colonial style mansion.

Day 5: El Fuerte - Copper Canyon
Today’s journey takes you to an elevation near 8,000 feet above sea level as you travel up the Chihuahua-Pacifico Railroad to the unspoiled landscape of Copper Canyon. The thrilling train ride will feature many tunnels and high bridges as it traverses the deep gorges of the expansive Copper Canyon. After a day of breathtaking views you will arrive at the Hotel Mirador, on the canyon rim, where you can enjoy even more spectacular views.

Day 6: Copper Canyon
Learn about the culture of the native Tarahumara Indians, who have lived in the area for centuries with little change in lifestyle. Watch them perform traditional dances and tribal games. Later in the day enjoy leisure time exploring the canyon from different vantage points.

Day 7: Copper Canyon - Creel - Chihuahua
Travel through the canyon to the town of Creel, one of the largest towns in the area. Then have a homemade lunch at Mennonite settlement near the town of Cuahtemoc.

Day 8: Chihuahua - El Paso, Texas
Take a tour of Chihuahua, home of famous Mexican Revolutionary leader Pancho Villa. In addition, visit the state capitol building and other local attractions before crossing back into the United States for a farewell dinner in El Paso, Texas.

Day 9: El Paso - Tour Ends
Your Copper Canyon Adventure comes to a conclusion, but the memories of this special vacation will last a lifetime.

See some of the best scenery Mexico has to offer with this incredible voyage into the Copper Canyon.
