Nederland Area Historical Society near Winter Park, Colorado located in Nederland itself, offers a unique look at the history and the people of this region over time. One of the main goals of the museum is to establish and maintain a history of mining in the region. It collects and preserves then later displays many of the artifacts and documents of the region. It also serves as a location for record keeping. There are two museums located on the site, both of which are filled with items that were given to the historical society of the years.
Many of the pieces of artifacts and documents here are records, published documents and pictures dating back a century or more. The Mining Museum and the Gillaspie House are some of the best historical collections in the area. Visitors are welcome to visit on the weekends with limited hours of service available during the winter months. Every September, it hosts the Yearly Nederland Day. This day is filled with educational opportunities and special events for children. Children are able to learn about the various artifacts and history of the location while helping with various programs and projects too.
Visitors to the Nederland Area Historical Society's two museums here, are able to enjoy a range of different activities. Guided tours are available through advanced reservations. You can bring groups and organizations with you as well, but do call ahead to make arrangements. This unique display of mining history is funded through donations and low cost admission.
