Winter Park in Colorado is home to a number of amazing features. One of the most famous is the
Continental Divide, which runs through these parts. In terms of nature, the divide is an outstanding feature that is worth visiting by anybody, but there is another attraction that is equally magnificent, albeit man-made. This feature is the Moffat Tunnel.
The Moffat Tunnel is a railroad and water tunnel that runs its course through the
Continental Divide in the northern regions of Colorado. Taking its name from David Moffat, a railroad pioneer, this tunnel extends over fifty miles. It's easily one of the more spectacular accomplishments in the country.
The railroad can have its origins traced back to 1902, when David Moffat was originally brainstorming the idea of sending train tracks through the mountainous region to bridge sections of the country together. Although the man died before the railroad was built, his ambitions carried on into the future. By 1928, the railroad was being built.
Today, this railroad serves as a famous example of ambition and marvelous feats of engineering. The tunnel runs towards Salt Lake City, and provides a water supply system to the people of Denver.
