The Hotel De Paris Museum near Winter Park, Colorado is located in Georgetown, Colorado. It was first founded by Louis Dupuy, who came to the United States from Alencon, France in 1844. Having worked in the mine for many years, he was injured in an accident where he saved the life of his partner by taking the explosion full on. As a thank you, the town collected donations that were then used by Dupuy to start his business. He rented a building that held the Delmonico Bakery in it and renovated it. He called it Hotel de Paris. The first floor was a restaurant and a kitchen area.
Several years after opening the location as a restaurant, he added two first floor sample rooms and an additional four hotel rooms on the second floor. The property grew to include the neighboring areas. Through the years, it would become a well known establishment in the area. In 1954, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and major renovations began and lasted through 1978.
Visitors can visit the Hotel de Pair from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend, with various hours of operation. The location does charge an admission, but it is minimal and used to keep the location running. Visitors wishing to take a guided tour can do so by scheduling it in advance or at the time of arrival. Tours consist of ten or more people at discounted rates. The location offers disabled access only to the first floor.
