Cozens Ranch Museum near Winter Park, Colorado is formally titled Cozens Ranch and Stage Stop Museum 1874. The location was first established by William Zane Cozen when he came to Colorado from Canada in 1830. He was elected sheriff of Central City a few years later. Later, he moved away, but today, there is a wide assortment of artifacts and treasures saved through the years. The Cozens Ranch and State Stop Museum has preserved most of this including all that is left of the 700 acre ranch that was once one of the most powerful locations in the region.
The museum itself is the old Cozen Ranch House. It is considered one of the oldest homes and ranches in the Fraser Valley. A walk through the house will allow visitors to enjoy old photographs of many of the Cozen family members. What's more, they depict the way that life was lived in Fraser Valley at the turn of the century. The house still contains the original wallpaper that was put onto the walls as well as pieces of the original carpeting. A variety of the family's items are stored at the house and on display to enjoy. Many of these items are antiques. Each piece tells a story about the history of the location.
Visitors will find the Cozen Ranch House located on US Highway 40. It is located between the cities of Fraser and Winter Park. The museum is open for tours Thursday through Saturdays during the day. Visitors pay a small admission fee.
