Devil's Tombstone State Campground near Windham, NY

Devil's Tombstone State Campground near Windham, New York is one of the oldest campgrounds throughout the state of New York. Those that visit are likely to be descendants of others that have visited the park year after year. It is located in Stony Clove, deep within this beautiful landscape. The park itself is surrounded by the majestic Catskill Mountains, many of which are the tallest in the state. Its location is perfect for those that plan to hike up those mountains. Many have made this their campground for excursions up the mountains for hundreds of years, though the mountains are difficult to climb and meant for serious climbers.

The trails around Devil's Tombstone provide for access to Hunter Mountain. It is located just four miles from Hunter Mountain itself. Here, visitors can head to the highest fire tower in the State of New York, which is considered to be a historic location in and of itself. Visitors to the campground will find it pleasant but small. It provides for wooded sites surrounding a small, shallow lake (Notch Lake.) You are not allowed to swim or take any boats onto the lake.

Visitors to Devil's Tombstone can bring children along. There is a playground located at the location. IN addition, the spot is one that is used by the Junior Naturalist Program for local children and teens. Nearby on North-South Lake you will be able to enjoy boating activities, fishing and swimming. There are showers located at that lake as well.
