Visit the birthpace of American independence at
Yorktown Battlefield and
Visitors Center.
See the landscape as it was in October of 1781, when British forces surrendered to American and French troops that were led by General George Washington. Be sure to visit the Visitors Center either before or after wandering through the beautiful grounds of Yorktown Battlefield. It is suggested you begin your visit at the Visitors Center for an orientation film and interesting museum exhibits, including original field tents that were used by George Washington and his men during this fierce battle.
Join a park ranger for a guided tour of the battlegrounds and 18th-century town, or take a scenic drive. The cannons and fortification will both intrigue and fascinate. The Yorktown Battlfield and Visitors Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Christmas Day. There are also extended seasonal hours. There is an admission fee.
