Visit one of the largest and most successful apothecary shops of early Virginia at the Pasteur & Galt Apothecary Shop in Williamsburg. This shop, opened in 1775 by Dr. William Pasteur and Dr. John Minson Galt, served the people of
Colonial Williamsburg for several years. Comparable to a modern pharmacy or drug store, Pasteur & Galt Apothecary Shop featured medicines, herbs, groceries, potions and elixers.
Visitors today will find the shop stocked and decorated as it was hundreds of years ago, complete with copies of Galt's certificates hanging on the walls. Although Pasteur would retire in 1778, his partner went on to serve as a military surgeon and director of the state apothecary during the war.
