Monticello-Home of Thomas Jefferson in Charlottesville, VAMonticello, affectionately referred to as Jefferson's Monticello by scholars, is an educational and thought provoking stop at any age.
Located in Charlottesville, VA, Monticello is situated on a scenic stretch of land that blossoms during the Summertime and blooms into harvest golds and reds during the Fall. Despite all appearances, this is not a stuffy location; children are encouraged to be tagged along, and the organization provides several pamphlets and books for young kids so that they can fully understand the significance of the trip and to know what to look for within the House and Grounds themselves. There are no restaurants on the grounds, as this is a historical site rather than recreational, but during the Autumn a nearby luncheonette offers it's services and picnic tables are kept nearby the Ticket Office. Visitors are encouraged to arrive at the grounds at least an hour before their scheduled tour so that they can wander around for themselves to take in the scenery. Available are:
