Bargain Convention Center - Good Staff
For those looking to host an event they HRCC is a good deal for those who need the space. I like it better than the other area convention centers given the price and location. There are tons of hotels and eateries nearby, the management staff is mostly helpful though be certain to be clear and concise of everything you want or theyll nickel and dime you to death. Everything costs from the tables to the chairs ... often at fairly large prices.. but all convention centers are like that. It is cheaper than the Virginia Beach convention center/pavillion. It is also right next door to the Embassy Suites. They have a contract with the Embassy Suites catering so be prepared if its a catered event. It is a fairly new convention center so everything is still in good shape and the landscaping is marvelous with beautiful fountains, lush greens and a wall of water in the convention center itself. You can have your logo/sign/whatever displayed on the back of the waterfall for a price and is a great photo opportunity place. The double walkway upstairs to the ballroom makes for a grand entryway and the large convention areas are... huge. I do not recommend using the large halls for concerts or anything with a audutorium like audience because the large halls are horrible for sound but the ballrooms upstairs work very nicely. There are just too many dead spots in the large room downstairs. One last negative is that the convention center eats signals. Dont even attempt to use a cellphone unless youre right next to the main foyer or a window. All in all Id give it an 8 out of 10.
