Enjoy miles of white sand beaches, trails, and wildlife at Grandview Natural Preserve approximately 30 miles southeast of Williamsburg, Virginia. This preserve on the Chesapeake Bay is ideal for hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities. The trails within this preserve total about 2 miles round trip, there aren't any steep grades, and they are well maintained. Kick off your shoes and follow that white sand beach and you'll discover a hidden treasure. Once upon a time, there was a lighthouse on this beach. The Back River Lighthouse was built in the early 1800's, and it stood for more than 125 years, before it was completely destroyed by a hurricane in the 1950's. All that remains now is a little bit of rubble, but that doesn't make it uninteresting.
Bikes and dogs are allowed onto the trails, but be courteous to other hikers that may be there. The Grandview Natural Preserve is open year-round, and is gorgeous no matter what season you visit. It is open daily from sunrise to sunset. There is no admission fee.
