Built in 1769, the Endview Plantation in nearby Newport News is a favorite living history attraction for visitors in the Williamsburg area. Thousands of years before the plantation was built, Native Americans enjoyed the abundance of game and fresh water along the pristine location. The plantation produced mostly grains, mixed crops and cattle. In 1781, the Virginia militia - and possibly Gen. George Washington - stopped at the plantation for rest and water.
The plantation was also occupied by Union troops during the Civil War. Today, Endview Plantation is a favorite site for Williamsburg-area visitors as tours are offered, special events are frequent and strolls of the gardens and grounds are a common way for guests to spend a relaxing afternoon.
