Visit a state park and one of the oldest working farms in the United States, by visiting Chippokes Plantation State Park in Surry, Virginia, located just west of Williamsburg. Aside from being a historical living exhibit, Chippokes Plantation also features many traditional park offerings. There's an Olympic size swimming pool and separate kiddie pool that are open from Memorial day to Labor Day, a visitors center which features exhibits on the history of the plantation, picnic facilities that include drinking water, grills, and restroom facilities, and hiking and biking trails. The park has 3 and a half miles of trails available for hiking and mountain biking. A half mile of the 3.5 miles is handicap accessible. The plantation has kept the same boundaries as it originally had in the 17th century and offers a variety of flower gardens and native woodlands. The Chippokes Farm and Forestry Museum, as well as the mansion, calls these plantation grounds home. Admission fees and parking fees vary, although they're not much, it's always a good idea to call ahead so you'll know what to expect.
