'Pastimes of Colonial Virginia' Theme Month at Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center in Williamsburg, VA
Today, the Jamestown Settlement offers a wealth of galleries and exhibits, as well as living examples of that historic event. Replicas of the three ships that brought the settlers to America are available for visitors to explore as well as a re-creation of the settler's fort and an Indian village. At the Yorktown Victory Center, just 20 minutes away, the struggles and victories of the American Revolution are presented through amazing indoor exhibits and enthralling outdoor re-creations of early American life.
For the entire month of August 2009 both the Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center will celebrate the "Pastimes of Colonial Virginia" with fascinating theme month presentations. With games, storytelling and other amusements that were popular during the period visitors can spend inter-active time learning the history of some of the nation's most important settlers. Join in the fun by playing games such as nine pins, corncob darts and the ancient board game Mancala as you experience what a typical day might have been like in 17th and 18th century Virginia.
