Colonial National Historical Park, as the arrival of Virginia's first African American's is highlited.
African Americans are the focal point of this exhibit, as the first ones to arrive on the continent in 1619. Africans originally came to Virginia as early as the 1500's as explorers of Spanish and French Jesuit missions. The English permanently settled Jamestown in 1607.
A Dutch vessel arrived sometime in 1619 bringing twenty african slaves to be traded for supplies. The Africans who were considered to be indentured servants. Be sure to visit this exhibit to learn about the first Africans to arrive in Virginia and their experiences.
