Canoe, Capstan, & Cargo in Williamsburg

Boats were and still are a big part of the Williamsburg way of life, and now you can be part of that, too. Waterways are the main source of food supply, transportation, and business in the 17th and 18th centuries. At the Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center, vacationers can help build boats or lend a hand with cargo and other fun things. Visitors will also learn about the production of lumber for shipping out of the country. At the Yorktown Victory Center, visitors can learn about the importance that ships had in the American Revolution, and in helping Virginia's main crop, tobacco, to be as successful as it was, and still is.
