Battle of Big Bethel Re-Enactment at Endview Plantation in Newport News, VA

Over 1,000 re-enactors will face off in the faux Battle of Big Bethel, set during the 145th anniversary of the Civil War battle. Although the size of the battle was comparatively smaller than other Union-Confederate engagements, it was the first major battle of the war in June 1861. News of the Battle of Big Bethel was spread throughout the country, and it was deemed significant as the first of thousands of Confederate soldiers was killed in this battle.

A weekend full of activities will not only relive this turning point in American history, but also offer excitement and festivities for the entire family. Special children's programs and activities will be offered, and re-enactors will also offer other demonstrations. Visitors can choose to attend just the re-enactment activities, or also tour the spectacular Endview Plantation.
