The first of ten major events honoring the birth of the United States will begin next month with a replica of the 17th-century
Godspeed, which will launch from Jamestown to sail an 80-day tour of six major East Coast Ports.
This commemoration kicking off the historic celebration is known as Jamestown 2007, and Colonial Williamsburg is sponsoring the event. But this is just the first chapter in an event that will span a period of nearly two years.
The event begins in Jamestown because this is where the first representative assembly emerged in America. Williamsburg is where the idea of America came together and flourished, and Yorktown is where the Revolutionary War ended, so this is a brief diagram of how Virginia's Historic Triangle each play their part in telling the story of how our nation was born.
Main events for Jamestown 2007 include "Virginia Indian Heritage Events" from Oct. 5-6 in Williamsburg and "African-American Imprint on America," with several activities throughout the 18-month gala.
Because this is an event that will span nearly two years, further information about events included in the 400 Anniversary will be posted as soon as they formulate. Beginning and ending dates may vary.
