With so much history you might think there isn't mush to do except visit Colonial Williamsburg or other historical sites, but there is plenty to do for the outdoor enthusiast. In Williamsburg the outdoor life doesn't end at sundown. If you are ready to head out in the Williamsburg area, consider one or several of the following.

Water Adventures:

With it's proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, there are many opportunities to hit the water and enjoy a trip around the area. See Jamestown Island from the sea the way the original explorers did with Jamestown Island Explorers. Along the way you'll see eagles, osprey, deer, and breathtaking scenery.  The narration includes Jamestown history, humor and local folklore. Yorktown Cruises offers a variety of cruise options, including a nighttime haunting cruise. See Yorktown the way the settlers did on a day-time narrated cruise or take a sunset cruise and enjoy the stunning sights and colors of the day's end. Cruises depart form the Waterman's Museum located on the shores of the York River. The Waterman's Museum is a museum that pays tribute to the mariners of the Chesapeake Bay.

If you like water, try one of the water parks in the area. Busch Gardens has opened a water park next door to its world famous theme park and it is full of the same quality rides you would expect from the people who brought you Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Water Country USA is the mid-Atlantic's largest water-park. Set to the 50s and 60s surf theme, this park has many slides, water rides, pools and entertainment.

Wildlife & Plant life:

If you enjoy the great outdoors and communing with nature try the Virginia Living Museum outside of Williamsburg. This is a museum unlike any other; a combination of native wildlife park, natural science museum, aquarium, botanical preserve, planetarium theater and observatory all in one. With nature trails that allow you to get up close to nature and displays of local indigenous wildlife, this truly is a living museum. Kids especially love the touch tank where they can touch horseshoe crabs and sea stars.

Golf Courses:

If you are a golfer then this is the place for you! Williamsburg offers some of the best courses in the country.

  • Kingsmill Resort features three different courses for your golfing pleasure. Choose from the River Course-the LPGAs Michelob Light Open, the Plantation Course designed by Arnold Palmer, or the Woods Course by Tom Clark. The entire resort is built around a natural landscape of trees, lakes and ponds. This resort has won many well-deserved awards.
  • Kiskiack Golf Club is one of Williamsburg's newest courses. Golf Digest awarded Kiskiak four stars and named it one of the places to play. Set along a scenic ridge, this course features gently rolling hills, luxurious greens and panoramic views. Kiskiak features a large driving range, sheltered hitting stations, practice putting greens and bunkered chipping area.
  • Williamsburg National Golf Club was designed by Jack Nicklaus This course was voted by Golf Digest as one of the ten best courses in Virginia. It was also given three and a half stars. And they give exceptional rates for tourists.
  • Ford's Colony Country Club has three courses with 54 holes. These world class courses offer the highest rating in the state. AAA has awarded the club's restaurant a five diamond rating for the last eight years, an astonishing record.

Whatever kind of outdoor activities you can enjoy, Williamsburg has an answer for you. So head on out to Williamsburg and enjoy yourself.

Colonial Williamsburg
We enjoyed the attractions and were impressed with the staff and the eating places except lunch at Chowning's Inn. It was outside and the hamburgers were cold and dry and tough, we were unable to eat them and our whole meal was not good. The tables were dirty and the whole place was untidy. The evening meals at King's Arms and Christina's Tavern were excellent and the waitstaff were very good. I would recommend them to others.

One of the most beautiful parks we've ever visited. Although the park was jam-packed, the wait time for rides were extremely short, maybe 12-20 minutes. We were very impressed

Many of the things we would like to have seen were closed for the season, but the weather was fine and there were no crowds.
