Family Fun & Lodging in Williamsburg Theaters, Museums, Parks, and Attractions
Williamsburg is the home of one of the original colonies of the United States. The area is colorful, educational and full of fun for the entire family. While one of its largest draws is Colonial Williamsburg, that is not all the area has to offer. With its rich entertainment and sights there is much to do and see in the area, so head on out to Williamsburg and enjoy the fun.
ATTRACTIONS
- Busch Gardens Williamsburg. This theme park is an action packed place with the charm of the 17th century and the technology of the 21st. The theme park is best known for its award winning roller coasters, although there is a ride or show for everyone. Busch Gardens has won awards for Best Food, Best Landscape, and Cleanest Theme Park. It was even named the world's "Favorite Theme Park" by the National Amusement Park Historical Association.
- Water Country USA. Summertime fun that will make a splash with the whole family! This water park includes great rides like Big Daddy Falls, a river-rafting adventure, and the high-speed, spiraling Peppermint Twist. Spectacular shows run throughout the day. And you can refuel at on-site snack bars or restaurant.
- Colonial Williamsburg. It would not be a visit to the Williamsburg area without a trip to this tribute to our nation's beginnings. Along with Yorktown and Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg is known as the world's largest outdoor museum. In certain areas there are performances that show history in action including a special show involving the judicial system and the punishment of the times, the stocks. See artisans practicing their crafts and be swept back 300 years.
- Jamestown Settlement. Become immersed in the history of the first settlers of the United States and the Powhattan Indians they encountered. Museums hold displays of various artifacts from the settlers as well as artifacts that go back thousands of years on the Native American side. In the outdoor living history areas you can board a replica of one of the ships that brought colonists to the "New World", learn how Pocahontas ground corn, try on armor or play games of the time period. Costumed interpreters will guide you through the past and help you try your hand at many of the activities.
- Yorktown Battlefield. Here on October 19, 1781 the British forces under General Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington, signaling the beginning of the end of the Revolutionary War. Watch a film and see museum displays while taking a walking guided tour of the area. There are also recreations of the famous battle.
- Virginia Living Museum. This museum is a spectacular combination of native wildlife park, natural science museum, aquarium, botanical preserve, planetarium theater and observatory - all in one wooded lakeside setting. Kids will especially enjoy the touch tank with its sea stars and horseshoe crabs. Learn the secrets of how plants and animals survive in the wild. The outdoor nature trail winds through the woods, brining you up close to Virginia's wildlife in natural settings, including bald eagles, bobcats, fox, wild turkeys and much more.

- Haunted Dinner Theater. A family-friendly event that will entertain everyone. Combine the show with a full 71-item buffet dinner and you have a winner for the whole family. This spooky show combines mystery, clues, bribe money, special effects and magic.
- Student Dinner Theater. Here is the family's opportunity to become a part of the show. The Student Dinner Theater offers age-appropriate murder mysteries; customized game shows and dances; an interactive spy game; glow-in-the-dark dance parties and scavenger hunts.
