The 400 Anniversary of the birth of our nation will be kicked off in May in Jamestown with the a replica of the 17th century Godspeed setting sail for an 80-day tour along the East Coast. This is just the first of ten major events included in the 400 Anniversary, which officially begins in the Fall of 2006 continuing into the Spring Season of 2008.

The birth of the United States is a very big deal, and it is only fitting that we honor it with a celebration that will span almost two years. Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown (known as the Historic Triangle in Virginia) are all playing a role in telling the story of how our nation came into existence.

The event is continuing a tradition that began in Jamestown back in 1807 with the 200th Birthday Gala. Quadracentennial oragnizers are working hard with communities to bring the celebration together, and educate people on this important occurence in history, which actually brought about the emergence of 3 different cultures: Powhatan, English, and African.

We have all heard the story about Pochahontas and Captain John Smith in everything from Disney animated movies to songs, etc. Now, a new movie is retelling the tale. It is called "The New World" and it stars Colin Farell as Captain John Smith. Filmed in Virginia, and released along the East Coast, the film has grossed more than $26 million since its release in January.

Since the celebration is in the beginning phases, more information about occuring events will be made public when they are released. Two of the main events included are "Virginia Indian Heritage Events" from october 5-6, 2006 in Williamsburg and "African-American Imprint on America," two of several scheduled activities throughout the 18-month gala.

The Commemoration will begin, as stated with the launch of the Godspeed, in Jamestown. It all begins here because Jamestown is truly where it all began with the first representation assembly for America back in 1607. Some of the events will continue in WIlliamsburg, since WIlliamsburg is where the idea of America came about and flourished. Then, it's on to Yorktown where the Revolutionary War ended almost 225 years ago, thus securing the new American Republic.

If you have ever wondered about the history of our nation, the birth of our cultures, and how it shapes us even today, you have almost two years to catch at least one, and preferably more of the events which will span throughout the Historic Triangle, and learn how it all began. You will see vivid re-enactments, brilliant accounts from stories, and numerous nationally recognized historic sites and museums, taverns, shops, and more.

If your do not happen to be a lover of history or the like, you'll find plenty of great area shopping, Busch Gardens, voted "The World's Most beautiful Theme Park," 90 acres of beautiful gardens and public greens within the historic area, as well as outstanding golf and unique entertainment venues.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Getting to the park was easy. My family does not like Busch Gardens, we prefer Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. Hershey has more to do.

LOVE IT
My hubby & I absolutely love BG and we don't even 'do' rides.- except the very tamest of them all such as the train and the sky lift - but, OH, and I love the Roamin' Rapids!! We enjoy the wonderful shows, the beautiful landscaping and the delightful music playing throughout the park as we walk around and around and around! And the shopping is fun! I look forward, also, to greeting the Clydesdales and spending time with them upon my arrival and saying goodbye to them when we leave. Our daughter lives in Wmsbg w/her family and we make a point to visit BG when we are there every summer.

I have visited Busch Gardens every spring break for the past 12 years. Just love the park, clean, fun and reasonable in expense. Mike F.
