Virginia Beach Exploration Attractions
Ages 0-18: Free
Bring along a camera to capture the sights with the Virginia Beach Exploration Attractions package, featuring three accommodating nights of lodging and the Virginia Air and Space Center.
For years, the Virginia Air and Space Center has reached for the stars, and you can view their accomplishments as well as some of their permanent exhibits. The exhibits include the Adventures in Flight Gallery, the Air & Space Craft Gallery, the Ham Radio Exhibit and the Space Gallery.
The Air & Space Craft gallery features the Apollo 12 Command Module, which was actually launched into space on November 14, 1969 and returned to Earth ten days later after orbiting the moon 31 times. You will actually see the scorch marks on the module’s curved sides, a souvenir from the Earth’s atmosphere. There are also several other spacecraft and aircraft, including a replica of the Wright Brother’s first flying model.
The Space Gallery includes Space Quest, an interactive gallery that has several kid-friendly features. At the Solar System room, guests will look up to see the giant Planetary Model hanging 30 feet up, with the largest planet, Jupiter, weighing in at 750 pounds with a diameter of 10 feet. There are even Planet Surface Samples that allow you to touch something similar to the surface of each planet, and an Inter-Planetary Travel Agency with brochures for “vacation” locales in space. Take a trip to Mars on the simulated space transporter, train for a mission to the moon and experience what it would be like to live or work in space, as well as many other exciting activities.
The Virginia Air and Space Center is an excellent choice for families of all ages, with any of the above activities available as well as several other options. Combined with three nights of lodging, the Space Center is the perfect choice for a family vacation in Virginia Beach.
