The Aquarium and Marine Science Center in Virginia Beach is a not to be missed experience. If you are staying in or around Virginia Beach then it is well worth planning to have a day out at the Marine Science Center. The Center is located on General Booth Boulevard. The center is spread over two buildings the Bay and Ocean Pavilion and the Marsh Pavilion, along with the nature trail that joins the two buildings.
It is best to decide in advance when you are going to the center because if you want to see all that it has to offer then you need to plan your day carefully. The center has one of the best and biggest aquariums and animal habitats in the country with hundreds of hands on exhibits, outdoor bird sanctuary, marshlands and a nature trail. You can also watch some movies about the center and exhibits in not to be missed 3D IMAX.
The Bay and Ocean Pavilion has the largest collection of Chesapeake Bay fishes, you can also see green turtles in the Chesapeake Light Tower Aquarium. The nature trail is a third of a mile long consisting of salt marsh and woodland preserve between the Center's two buildings.
At the Marsh Pavilion you can see river otters, sea horses and other types of marine life. Take a walk along the outer deck and see the many different species of birds in the outdoor aviary. Learn more about the marshes and the bay from the three hundred or so interactive exhibits that are on offer.
