Located on Douglas Street in Victoria, the Mint is an unconventional restaurant which serves up an interesting ensemble of Tibetan and Nepalese food.
A four course meal at the Mint begins with exotic starters like the Badam Sandheko which combines roasted Nepalese peanuts with ginger and cilantro and the succulent Tibetan Momos, which are handmade dumplings in meat and vegan versions, which you can devour either steamed and pan-fried with a helping of vegetables. For salads, try the Mint Green Salad which, with its blend of organic greens cilantro, mint, kalamata olives, shreds of feta and a rice wine vinaigrette, comes very highly recommended. You can also try the sumptuous platters which come in the Ploughman's, the Italian and the Mint varieties, or simply throw your own together from the wide variety of meats, fish, cheeses and dips that the Mint offers. Entrees feature the piquant Chilies and Chicken, which needless to say, is not for the faint hearted. Vegans will delight in the Vegan Curry of the day which is served with warm rice. And if you're too flummoxed to decide, let the Mint take over with their four-course Nepali Dinner. A complete meal for just $18, you certainly won't come away disappointed!
The Thunder Spaghetti with its Italian sausage, garlic, beef, pepper and mushrooms is quite a meal in itself. And if you're on the look out for something lighter, try the Nut Burger or the Spicy Noodle Soup which come in tofu, chicken and prawn variations. For the grand finale, don't forget to treat your taste buds to the sinful Frangelico Chocolate Cheesecake or the Nepalese Kheer. The Mint ensures you have plenty to sip on during your meal with the long list of teas that are brewed here.
The décor is intimate and unpretentious and the restaurant offers live entertainment six days a week. From Bossayou to Reggae to rotating DJs, there's plenty of food for the musical ear. The management does not accept credit cards, so be sure to bring plenty of cash along. You can visit the restaurant from 12 am to 2 pm and 5.30 pm to 2 am on Monday, 5.30 pm to 2 am, Tuesday through Saturday and 5.30 pm to 12 am on Sunday.
