If you are in British Columbia, Canada and staying in or around Victoria then there is plenty to see and do. For people who enjoy a good play or performance then a visit to the Belfry Theatre in Gladstone Street Victoria is a must. Tickets are available from the Box Office which is open from 9.30 am to 5pm on Mondays and til 7pm Tuesday through Saturday, on Sunday the Box Office is open for one hour before a performance.
Besides its normal run of plays and performances the Belfry Theatre also runs workshops for students and community theatre artists. The Theatre has also been running a program called Incubator which offers little known artists the opportunity to produce new plays in an environment where they will receive professional support. This program is also designed to bring new and creative performances to audiences - the winning production is performed at the Belfry's annual Festival. In addition to this the Belfry also offers workshops to new writers who are developing new plays for the stage.
The Belfry theatre is housed in a Victorian Church, Chapel and outer buildings which have been beautifully restored adjacent to down town Victoria. The building was formerly a Baptist Church and it has housed the Theatre since 1991.
The Belfrey has a main stage with a seating capacity of 279, Studio A is a performance space with raised seating for ninety to a hundred people. Studio B is a conference and reception room and is also the place where the theatre's workshops and community activities take place.
