The Beaches of Veracruz

The entire country of Mexico is blessed with beautiful beaches and amazing shores.  There are areas along the coast where you can literally see your feet as you stand in three feet of water.  Veracruz is certainly no exception to this and no Veracruz vacation is complete without a trip to these amazing beaches.

There are a number of different beaches that you can enjoy while visiting and each are unique.  Whether you're looking to dive and explore the coral reef off Anton Lizardo or explore the dunes of Playa Chachalacas, there is a beach for everyone in Veracruz.

Anton Lizardo is a small town that is located just past Boca Del Rio.  Aside from the Mexican Naval Academy, there is little more to do here than hang out on the wonderful beaches and enjoy diving amongst the coral reefs.  The reefs in this area are reminiscent of the reefs off the Yucatan mainland featuring lots of sponges and plenty of wrecks.  Oddly, these reefs are far less visited by diver traffic and are a great opportunity to explore what lies beneath the crystal clear waters.

Playa Chachalacas is located about 31 miles north of Veracruz.  This beach features fine sand and calm waters that are ideal for various aquatic sports.  There are also many sand dunes in the area which are popular for ATVing amongst tourists.

Mocambo is a beach located about 5 miles south of the Port of Veracruz.  This is one of the most visited beaches by tourists and also ideal for a number of water sports and relaxing.

Isla de Sacrificios features many beaches and is located near the Port of Veracruz.  These beaches are named after the sacrifices that were carried out in this location by the first settlers of the area.  The water is protected by the government of Veracruz and provides numerous water activities including diving and kayaking.

Boca del Rio also features numerous beaches that beautifully contrast with the city and architecture located near them.  This area is known for its numerous hotels, restaurants, bars, sports facilities and shopping centers.  This area has become a large tourist attraction and offers much to see and do as well as amazing beaches where you can take a break from the day's activities.

Costa Esmeralda is located between Tecolutla and Nautla.  This area gained its name from the unique green color of the sea in this area and offers a number of tranquil beaches to enjoy.  You will also find kayaking, fishing and other water sports.

Tecolutla is a unique town known for its pre-Hispanic origin and is situated approximately 35 miles from Nautla.  The area features tranquil waters and several water activities including sail boating, fishing, diving and water skiing.  Each year the area holds an International Tournament of Fishing of the Shad in August and the beaches are located near the El Tajin archeological sites.

Finally, if you enjoy snorkeling you will find Roca Partida to be of interest to you.  This area was once a refuge to pirates and the entrance is an ideal area to snorkel.  You will also find enormous cliffs that are excellent for rock climbing and rappelling.  The features hundreds of sea birds as well.

It's not hard to find a beach in Veracruz, as there are several beautiful and tranquil beaches that are ideal for a day of water sports or simply resting in a hammock.
