Located at Ewen Avenue in New Westminster, the Queensborough Community Center offers an eclectic array of recreational opportunities to visitors of all ages.
The Community Center aims to promote a holistic and all-rounded development. To achieve this end, the center organizes craft workshops for young creative minds, cultural activities and sports facilities so canalize juvenile energy in productive and ingenious avenues. Teens are invited to participate in the youth program, aptly labeled Teensborough which conducts evening drop-ins, trips and events from time-to-time. Members can also voice their views in the Youth Council which holds its meetings at the Community Center. Adults can benefit from the insights gained in the parenting workshops, while also maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle with activities and fitness classes. For the young and heart and seasoned by age, the Center also hosts monthly teas and weekly bingo sessions.
The Fitness Center is well-equipped with a weight room where fitness enthusiasts can avail of free weights, stationary bikes and treadmills. The spacious gymnasium also boasts of an indoor basketball court, soccer and ball hockey facilities. The Queensborough Special Programs Committee, which operates from the Community Center, organizes a number of events through the year which include the monthly family dinner as well as the well-known Urban Farmers Fall Fair which draw visitors from all over the country. The Center also serves as tribute to the legendary history of the city with picture collages in the lobby recreating some of the most significant events, while the family plaque board commemorates the noteworthy citizens of New Westminster.
In all its endeavors, the Queensborough Community Center strives to bring the community together and encourage an active, fruitful and creative way of life. The Center is also supported by a number of organizations, whose efforts and contributions are acknowledged with the handmade quilt which is displayed at the Center.
The Community Center is open to visitors from 9 am to 9 pm, Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 8 pm on Friday and 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
