Located at Eight Avenue in New Westminster, Moody Park is undoubtedly the most eclectic of all the recreational arenas that the city has to offer.
Named after the legendary Royal Engineer Colonel Richard Clement Moody, who was one of the founders of this historic city, the park is spread over an array of activities, diverse enough to satiate the most adventurous soul. Here, visitors can hop into the clear waters of the outdoor pool on a balmy day, engage in a spirited game of tennis at any of the tree well-maintained courts, or even opt for an old-world sporting experience at the lacrosse box. If you like to rough it up, there are also the five baseball courts and two rugby grounds to put your endurance to the test. Outdoor enthusiasts will revel in the miles of scenic trails that wind through the park, while the lush open spaces are a treat to urban-sore eyes.
However, it is the Moody Park arena that is this park's true claim to fame. The park offers ice programs at varying levels to egg on the beginner, while encouraging the pro with a challenging lesson. Participants can benefit from the small class sizes the park insists on. The innovatively themed children's lessons are tailor made to appeal to young minds with learning through toys and games, which pique curiosity and make skating interesting and fun. You can also schedule your skating lessons as per your convenience with the park offering daytime and evening sessions on a weekly and biweekly basis. If you don't have skates of your own or prefer not to carry them along, you can even rent a pair from the arena at very reasonable rates.
The Moody Park is open to visitors all through the week from 8:30 in the morning to 8:30 pm. For further information, you can refer to the website http://www.nwpr.bc.ca/mpa.html or call Moody Park at 604-525-5301.
