The restaurant is housed in what was once the lavish home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Welsh, who were renowned as amongst the most prominent residents of New Westminster of their times. Today, La Rustica, which draws patrons from all over the country, still exudes their legendary hospitality with its outstanding food and superlative service. A meal at the restaurant begins with appetizers like a divine Calamari Fritti which is comprised of ocean-fresh squid fried to a crisp and served with tartar sauce, and the superlative Les Escargots de Ourgogne which combines the white wine-doused escargots with a garlic-butter sauce. Vegetarians have plenty to choose from with the chef dishing out masterpieces like the Penne Sambuca and the Cheese and Spinach Angioli. Dinner at La Rustica is even more spectacular with delicacies like the Marget de Canarad which has an oven-baked duck breast simmered in dried cherries, cranberries, mixed spices stealing the spotlight. Seafood lovers will delight in the compote of lobster, tiger prawns, sea scallops, fresh mussels, clams, salon and halibut which bubble together in the fresh tomato-fish broth to create the Cioppino.
