In September 2007 the park hosted the Vail Skatepark Competition where about 50 competitors completed in various age and talent disciplines. Prizes came from the local skate/snowboard shop and competition sponsor, The Board Room.
The competition was sent up as a way to celebrate the success of the Vail Skatepark's inaugural year. Chad Young, Director of Youth Services for the Vail Recreation District was quoted as saying the following regarding the competition: "We've had strong participation in our skateboard clinics, the older skaters love the park's layout, and the overall talent level has been beyond our expectations. This competition celebrates a summer's worth of practice for all skaters, and it's sure to be a good time."
Approximately 150 spectators watched the competition. The registration fee was $12 with all proceeds going to local charities. The competition was open to skater six years old and older wearing helmets. Adults were also permitted to compete.
The Vail Skatepark is closed in October. During this month the ramps are disassembled and are re-installed at the close of the ski season.
