The Left Bank Restaurant in Vail, CO at 183 Gore Creek Drive is a French-cuisine restaurant described by some patrons as the finest in the valley. The restaurant has been in business for more than 25 years.
Liz and Luc Meyer started the Left Bank Restaurant in 1970. Luc was able to cultivate relationships with the finest vintners in France and California in order to provide the restaurant with the rarest wines available.
In May 2006, the couple's son, Jean-Michel and his wife Kimberly took over the ownership of the restaurant.
Jean-Michel began his chef's apprenticeship at the age of 15 in a small restaurant called Les Trois Biches in the French Alps. In 1996 he spent three years as the Chef of Chez Le Per Gras in Grenoble and later became the Executive Chef of Stonepine Estate Resort. He is a Chateaux Purple Shield award winner.
In 1998 Jean-Michel Chelain (not the son) joined the Left Bank as the Sous Chef. He left the restaurant for two years to be the Executive Chef of the Bleu Jacket Restaurant in Lawrence, Kansas. After than he began leading the Left Bank's kitchen.
The restaurant is closed on Sundays. It accepts major credit card payments and reservations after 12 noon.
The menu includes items such as Fresh tomato soup topped with a puff pastry, Fresh Lobster, Shrimp, Scallops and Mussels served in a lobster broth with fresh fennel, Fresh Grilled Salmon, served with Béarnaise sauce on the side and Thinly sliced seasonal fruit on a puff pastry, brushed with apricot glaze, topped with Vanilla Ice Cream (Tarte Chaude aux Fruits de Saison)
