Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, AZ is deemed as small but mighty in zoo standards when compared to others in the country. There are hundred of animals here that call the zoo home. You will see flamingoes, polar bears and lion tail macaques which are housed in the adaptation area of the zoo. The Asian area of the Reid Park Zoo houses such animals as gibbons, tigers and even the sun bear. In the African areas, you might run across giraffes, lions, rhinos, elephants, mandrills and more. The South American contingent may host jaguars, macaws, bears, llamas and other animals native to the area.
The walk-through aviary at Reid Park Zoo is quite fun as the birds are loose, flying around, eating or just goofing off! There are also opportunities to see animal feedings, demonstrations and more. This zoo is smaller than others in that it doesn't have animal collections such as the reptiles or major sea life. However, the staff is friendly and very informative about the animals in the park.
Admission is reasonable at $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for children. The Reid Park Zoo is open most days from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There are ample restrooms inside the park and the gift shop has some really great souvenirs and gifts. For an additional $2, you could ride the Reid Park Express, a train that travels around the park. And if you want to get up close and personal to a giraffe, pay $2, come to a feeding time and feed the giraffes a biscuit!
