A bustling gathering place before Toronto City hall, Nathan Phillips Square is home to a great many festivals and annual events.
Founded to encourage free speech, the park also embraces mankind's right to freedom, as evident in the arching statue that stretches over the reflecting pool. Embedded in the stone is a piece of the Berlin Wall with a commemorative plaque and nearby, Oscar Nemon's statue of Sir Winston Churchill.
The Peace Garden, and Henry Moore's sculpture 'Three-Way Piece No 2 (The Archer)' is also featured here, and while those inspiring pieces are to remind us of the heavy sacrifices made in the name of freedom, the park remains a place where both Canadians and travelers from abroad can gather together.
During the summer, the reflecting pool is used by children and adults alike to cool down, while winter turns it into a skating rink.
Nathan Phillips Square can be found directly in front of City Hall, located at the northwest corner of Queen and Bay streets.
