News4Kids Birthday Celebration! at the Toronto Zoo in Toronto, ON

In September of 2006, News4Kids, a Toronto-based newspaper geared towards school-age children, had its 4th anniversary party at the Toronto Zoo. This event was open to kids of all ages and their families. The kids who attended received gift bags and prizes and got to view the zoo's various exhibits while learning about current news events pertaining to nature and animals. A mini spelling bee was also held, and the winners received even more desirable kids' prizes.

Sadly, News4Kids shuttered its doors in summer 2007. The paper was the oldest kids' newspaper in Canada and consisted entirely of writing by preteens. The paper was distributed quarterly and on each distribution reached over 100,000 kids in the Toronto Metro area. The Toronto Zoo is still open and continues to hold special events like this one in addition to its normal exhibits and activities.
