Wild Earth Llama Adventures in Taos, NM
Wild Earth Llama Adventures in Taos, New Mexico offers llama trekking services through the wilderness. It is New Mexico's oldest and most experienced llama trekking outfitters and has been around for more than 16 seasons.
Most trips take place at Wheeler Peak, Columbine-Hono, Latir Peak Wilderness Areas and Rio Grande Gorge/Wild and Scenic Rivers Recreation Area. Treks are customized for any age or fitness level. Groups are kept small.
The guides have extensive knowledge of local ecology, wilderness living skills, and national and regional history. Guides are trained and certified in wilderness medication and CPR. They are also knowledgeable in emergency rescue and evacuation so clients are guaranteed that they'll be safe, warm and dry. The company has never had a major injury experienced by any of its patrons while they're on tour.
The company chooses llamas for its tours because llamas are alert, curious creatures that know how to navigate the mountains. They have a keen sense of smell, hearing and sight and will often notice deer or elk before people do.
Wild Earth Llama Adventures has been featured on The Weather Channel Road Crew, Weekend Explorer, and New Mexico Wild.
The company offers special Family Wilderness Adventures for parents and children. The llamas have been trained to handle children riding on their backs. There's also the Take a Llama to Lunch hike where a llama will carry gear while customers hike. A gourmet picnic lunch is included with this hike.
Most trips require hiking four to 10 miles a day. Reservations are required. A 50% deposit on all reservations is necessary. Trips include the cost of meals from lunch the first day to the lunch on the final day.
