The Museum Association promotes the work of the seven Taos museums. Since it began in 1996 it has developed a range of outreach activities and formed the Southwest Research Center of Northern New Mexico. The museums include works from the Taos Society of Artists plus collections of Native American and Hispanic artifacts.
The Blumenschein Home and Museum houses the artwork of Ernest L. Blumenschein, a co-founder of the influential Taos Society of Artists. The museum is located in what was his family home and includes a collection of European antiques and the family's possessions. The Taos Art Museum houses over 300 pieces of art from more than 50 Taos Artists including Bert G Philips, E. I Ocuse and Nicolai Fechin - the Russian born artist who's house is the location for the museum.
La Hacienda de los Martinez was built in the late Spanish colonial period and features frontier life around the times of the early 1800s. There are also demonstrations of traditional arts and crafts. The Harwood Museum is operated by the University of New Mexico and its permanent collection features paintings on wood, known as retablos, sculpture and the works of the Taos Society of Artists and Agnes Martin.
The Millicent Rogers Museum houses a large collection of Native American and Hispanic artwork including ceramics, painting, photography plus Spanish colonial furniture and textiles.
The Association runs as free program of stories and art projects for pre-schoolers, and the Curator Lunch series of talks based on the museum's collections. A ticket can be purchased for all seven museums and is valid for one year.
