An offering from the Lajitas Stables chain, the Rio Grande Stables offer visitors to New Mexico a one-of-a-kind opportunity to explore the rocky vistas of Taos on a majestic horseback ride.
These stables are operational from the 15th of May until the 15th of September every year. You can discover the beautiful trails which wind through the Sangre de Crsito Mountains on a one hour ride or explore the Bull of the Woods Creek on a tow hour adventure. You can even try the three or four hour long rides which guide you through an array of terrains, from pine groves to summery meadows. And if you're game, Rio Grande will even arrange for a full day trip or even an overnight excursion. These rides lead you to Wheeler Peak, which is the highest point in New Mexico where you can either go fishing in the trout-infested waters, or try your luck at spotting some elk or bighorn sheep.
You can even opt to combine your horseback ride with a stopover at the Taos Ski Valley. Serene and tranquil, this place will soon draw you into its intimate life, embellished with astounding displays of Native American Art and culture. You can also visit the famous Taos Pueblo or engage in s spot of whitewater rafting.
An hour long trip with the Rio Grande Stables is priced at $40 per person, while the 4 hour ride will cost you $85 per head. You can even embark on the half-day long ride which also includes a delicious picnic lunch for $90 or go the whole hog with the journey to Wheeler Peak and back for $150.
