The Wilder Nightingale Fine Art Gallery features landscapes, still life and abstract works by more than 35 regional artists, working in a variety of media including oil, pastel and watercolors. The gallery features work from prominent and award-winning artists such as Ray Vinella, Rory Wagner, Margaret Nes and Stephen Day. Since its opening in 1990 the Gallery has been assisting collectors specializing in pieces from the artists of Taos. The gallery itself is unmistakable with its cream and blue-pillared frontage and bronze sculptures at the entrance.
Italian-born artist Ray Vinella is one of the leading artists in the Taos area. Inspired by Russian artist Fechin, who was a member of the Taos Society for Art, he moved to Taos, forming his own group of artists known as the 'Taos Six' He is regarded as one of the 'old masters' of Taos and has provided guidance to many younger painters. His works often feature still life and native Indian scenes.
There are many other artists featured in the gallery including Rory Wagner who was inspired by the Dutch portrait painter Vermeer, and was mentored by R. . Gorman, the contemporary Indian artist, His work features close-up portraits of Native American men and women.
Pat Wolf's works feature the contrasts of light and shadow in abstracts of Mexican pots, rocks and the walls of the adobe houses of the Taos Pueblo. Margaret Nes's paints colorful still life, village and landscapes scenes and she received the Best of Contemporary Award 2007 at the Taos Invited Taos event.
