The Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs are ancient springs that have been a source of healing for possibly thousands of years. Ancestors of today's Native American Tewa tribes built terraced gardens and large pueblos overlooking the springs. The Spaniards discovered the springs in the 1500s. They named the springs Ojo Caliente, which literally translated means "warm eye". In the 1800s, Taos-born Antonio Joseph discovered the springs. He built a sanitarium near them that soon established a reputation as the place where invalids could be cured. The Co-ed Bathhouse was built in the 1860s. The hotel was built in 1916. In 1924 the Adobe Round Barn was built. These buildings have been restored and are registered as historic buildings, and today people can still sleep in the historic hotel. The Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort & Spa offers many other types of accommodations. There are an assortment of luxury suites, private homes, and cottages. There's also an RV and Camping Park, but the park doesn't allow access to the mineral pools. Spa services are diverse and include massage therapy, skin care, body treatments, and nail treatments. A variety of yoga classes are offered regularly. The Springs property also has 1,100 acres that have plenty of hiking and biking trails. The Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort & Spa has several packages available that also include entrance into the springs. Packages start at $120 for a massage and salt glow, to $845 for the Four-Day Rejuvenation Package during high season.
