Michael's Kitchen in Taos, NMMichael's Kitchen in Taos, New Mexico is located three blocks
north of the Historic Taos Plaza at 304 C N Pueblo Road. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also has a bakery. The food served can be categorized as an American/Mexican mix. The building itself is quite old, but well maintained and clean. The restaurant has been in business for more than 30 years. The history of Michael's Kitchen is quite long and goes back a few years. In 1957 the building that is now Michael's Kitchen was built. Enos Garcia built the building. Mike Spivey and his wife decided to rent the new building and open a new café called Spivey's Café. The family lived in the basement which today is the bakery section of Michael's Kitchen. Spivey sold the restaurant, while still living in the basement, and then he bought it back. In 1969 Cal Loving bought Spivey's Café and ran it for five years. On February 1, 1974 the current owner, Mike, bought the café. Three years later he changed the name to Michael's Kitchen. Today approximately 72 to 80 people work at the restaurant. Breakfast prices don't go higher than $12, with most of the meals costing much less. Egg dishes are popular and served with a choice of hash browns, cottage cheese or sliced tomatoes. With egg meals there's also a choice of toast, pancakes, English muffins, or corn or flour tortillas. Breakfast is served all day. The lunch menu features an assortment of sandwiches and burgers all less than $9. Dinners cost well under $20. There's also a children's menu.
