The gallery is located at 302 Camino de la Placita (at Bent Street), just off the Taos Plaza and North of Our Lade of Guadalupe Church.
Each piece of work by each artist reflects his or her personal or human encounter with the Divine. The art is full of mythology, religion, history and symbolism. Each piece of art tries to provide aesthetic beauty, but also strives for "a dialogue of both mind and heart in the essential human search for meaning, truth and growth."
The JHS Gallery is open from Monday through Saturday starting at 10 am. The gallery isn't officially opened on Sunday, but patrons can see the art if an appointment is made. Appointments can be made by calling (505) 758-0280.
Types of art on display in the gallery include marble and bronze sculpture, metal sculpture, found materials sculpture, mixed media, oil on canvas, relief paints, oil paintings, woven copper sculpture, Byzantine mosaics, 23-karat gold water gilding, oil on wood, egg tempera with 23-karat gold leaf, and egg tempera and 23-karat gold on glass.
Some of the artists whose work is on display in the gallery are very experienced with custom design work and collaboration. Individuals can commission a piece of sacred art. Purchasing commissioned art tends to be much more expensive than purchasing an existing piece of art.
Purchasing an existing piece of art may also be a better option if a person would like to have their artwork sooner than later.
