Fenix Gallery in Taos, NMThe Fenix Gallery in Taos, New Mexico is located at 208 Ranchitos Road. It features serious contemporary art with some of the most "advanced aesthetics in the world today."
The artists whose work is displayed in this gallery have national and international reputations. According to the owner and director, Judy Kendall, each artist has "a unique visual language and a need to touch a world beyond ordinary perception. In their creative processes, Nature is not just an outside, observable force but a part of themselves, integrated and reflected in their work." The gallery name, Fenix, is actually the old English spelling for the word phoenix. The word phoenix alludes to the Egyptian myth of a bird that consumed itself with fire and miraculously rose, unharmed, from the ashes. Author DH Lawrence used images of the phoenix in his Taos homes. Images of the phoenix was also carved on this gravestone. Owner and director, Judy Kendall, chose to name her gallery the Fenix because she feels "strongly that art which heralds change or reflects contemporary culture must have roots in archetypical imagery." She sums up the definition of art the best when she says, "Art is a celebration of our history, our culture, our souls." More than 30 artists have either had or have their art displayed in the Fenix. The gallery also resells some of the work done by these artists. Prices for resold art varies widely and can cost between $1,800 and $9,000. Some pieces of art may sell for more. The Fenix Gallery accepts all major credit cards and personal checks. Work is shipped once full payment is made. All shipments are fully insured. No tax is charged for out-of-state purchases, but shipping charges may be applied at the time of purchase.
