The horses are gentle, and there are rides available for people with different types of riding experiences. Prices ranges from $40 to $70. A one-hour ride costs $40. A two-hour ride costs $70. Individuals looking for a place to board their horses can also do that at the Cieneguilla Stables. The Cieneguilla Stables are located in the general area where the Battle of Cieneguilla was fought in 1854. The battle was a fight between a group of Jicarilla Apaches and the US 1st Calvary Regiment. The battle occurred on March 30 and was reported as "one of the severest battles that ever took place between American troops and Indians." By the end of the battle, 22 dragoons were dead and 23 were wounded. Estimates for the number of Jicarillas that died is unclear and ranges widely from two to fifty. The Jicarillas won the battle.
