Celebrate the spirit of the mythical Mama Guava at Tampa's annual Guavaween.
This holiday is named after the city's nickname. Rather than the Big Apple, Tampa is known as the Big Guava. Guavaween is a latin style Halloween complete with a night parade full of colorful ghouls, goblins, and sometimes silly costumes. Trophies and cash prizes are handed out to those in costume who best capture the Guavaween spirit. The costume contest winner receives $1,000 in cash prizes. Mama Guava has sworn to the take the "bore" out of Ybor City, and you'll absolutely love the way she livens up the place.
From 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., there will be a Family Funfest, so be sure that you can bring the kids along. At 4 p.m., the night festivities begin. There will be buses to run visitors to and from certain locations, as parking is limited in Ybor City. Admission is not free for this event, but it's only a few bucks, and well worth it. So join the estimated 100,000 visitors at this years Guavaween.
